Personal challenges such as stress, 焦虑, 抑郁症, relationships and low self-esteem can impact academic and personal functioning. 

咨询 may help you to identify and explore available options, increase self-awareness and make realistic decisions about concerns that may be distracting you from achieving your personal and academic goals.  Speaking with a professional can increase a students’ ability to achieve a sense of clarity and in turn regain a sense of empowerment to make decisions that feel right. 

C-CAPS提供了一个安全, non-judgmental and highly confidential environment where students can meet with a professional to discuss any discomfort or concerns they may have.  For situations or conditions that require more comprehensive or longer-term services than the C-CAPS offers, we will assist students with referrals to off-campus providers.

In addition to counseling, C-CAPS offers a number of other services.  These include workshops on topics such as test 焦虑, stress management, and assertiveness.  Additional services available can be found under our services link.

Confidentiality and trust are very important to the counseling process.  因此, 除了下面描述的, the information disclosed during counseling and the identity of counseling clients 不会 be shared with anyone outside C-CAPS without the client’s express (usually written) consent.  This confidentiality extends to situation in which a client is referred to C-CAPS by a faculty member, 管理员, 或朋友.

然而, exceptions to confidentiality may be necessary or be required by law when the C-CAPS professional believes there is risk of harm to yourself, 其他个人(年代), or the university community; in cases of medical emergency; in situations involving probable child abuse; or other legal mandate.  如果发生这种情况, relevant information may be disclosed only to university personnel and/or others with responsibility for protecting safety or with legal jurisdiction.

Situations involving exceptions to confidentiality occur infrequently.  We encourage you to talk with a staff counselor or psychologist if you have concerns about this.
